Tongyeong International Music Festival 2018: Returning Home
The 2018 Tongyeong International Music Festival will feature an exciting array of artists and ensembles.
Chung Kyung Wha and Hwang Sumi will open the festival together with Bochum Symphony Orchestra and American conductor Steven Sloane in their Korean debut performance. Ludger Engels, German stage director and well known to the Tongyeong audience from the 2012 production Semele Walk, will present an exciting new production based on Il ritorno d´Ulisse in Patria by Claudio Monteverdi, featuring Korean musicians alongside Ensemble Kaleidoskop.
The award-winning Czech Bennewitz Quartet will perform two programmes including the first String Quartet by Isang Yun, while the 2017 Van Cliburn Competition winner Sunwoo Yekwon will be present with a chamber concert and a recital. Tongyeong Festival Orchestra will return together with conductor Christoph Eschenbach, violinist Midori and pianist Tzimon Barto in two programmes with music by Bernstein, Rihm, Unsuk Chin, and Dvorak. The orchestra will be a joint-project with Hong Kong Sinfonietta and Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa, which will go on tour to Japan and Hong Kong after the festival.
